When the roof is closed, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport can reach 407 km/h, while speeds of up to 360 km/h are possible with roof off. Should it rain, an innovative folding roof stored in the luggage compartment can be opened up like an umbrella at any time. When this folding roof is in place, the car can travel at up to 130 km/h. The world’s fastest roadster is immediately recognizable from its roofed brethren by its slightly higher windscreen, stylized daytime running lights, and lightweight, transparent polycarbonate roof.
The main challenge in developing the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with removable roof resulted from the unique structure of the fixed-roof Bugatti Veyron. An optimum combination of rigidity and lightweight engineering ensures the monocoque passenger cell of the original model is extremely strong while weighing an absolute minimum – it is a central element of the vehicle’s structure. As the roof is an integral part of this, removing it meant the load paths had to be completely redesigned to maintain the vehicle’s rigidity and crash safety, and to offer additional protection from side impacts and rolling
Made from a Ferrari 360 Modena that is halved & stretched by 9.5ft with a section of hand-built carbon fibre. A 3.6 litre V8 engine gives a top speed of around 166mph (just 17mph less than the standard 183mph Modena) & it can go from 0 to 60mph in less than six seconds. It lost little of its performance because it weighs just 160kg more than the original 1390kg car. This 23ft long, the 400bhp vehicle has been equipped with an extra six seats & can carry eight passengers in total & the car gives an average of 15mpg on the motorway. It has a six speaker surround sound system & slimline DVD built in & apart from this, it has a 10-inch flat screen monitor between each pair of seats which relays images from cameras fixed on the outside of the vehicle. The project is thought to be around £200,000 & the world's fastest limousine is available to rent - £700 an hour.
A man who made the world's fastest limousine is facing the wrath of an automotive giant – because Ferrari want him to stop calling his car a Ferrari.
Dan Cawley with his limousine, which definitely isn't a Ferrari
But Ferrari are now demanding that he remove all the Ferrari badges and names from the car, and to stop referring to it as a Ferrari, on the grounds that it isn't a Ferrari any more. If he refuses, Cawley faces legal action for infringing Ferrari's trademark.
